Description

Slow Cooker Garlic Butter Steak Bites are tender, flavorful, and cooked low and slow in a rich garlic-butter sauce with sweet onions. Made with sirloin or chuck roast, this comforting crockpot dinner is perfect over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 4 pounds Sirloin Steak or Chuck Roast, cut into bite-sized cubes

Seasonings

  • 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika, not hot

Other Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil, divided
  • 1 large Sweet Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Low Sodium Beef Broth
  • 1-ounce packet Au Jus Gravy Mix
  • 6 cloves Garlic, pressed
  • 5 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, sliced
  • Chopped Fresh Parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Cut the sirloin steak or chuck roast into bite-sized cubes, ensuring uniform pieces for even cooking.
  2. Season the Steak: In a large bowl, combine the steak cubes with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Toss until the meat is evenly coated with the seasonings.
  3. Sear the Steak (Optional but Recommended): Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak cubes in batches and quickly sear them on all sides for a few minutes until browned. This step helps develop flavor but can be skipped if short on time.
  4. Prepare Slow Cooker: Place the thinly sliced sweet onion at the bottom of the slow cooker. Then, add the seared or raw steak cubes on top of the onions.
  5. Add Liquids and Flavorings: In a small bowl, mix the beef broth with the Au Jus gravy mix until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the meat in the slow cooker. Add the pressed garlic and the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  6. Cook: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low for 7 hours. The long, slow cooking will tenderize the meat and infuse the flavors thoroughly.
  7. Add Butter: About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the sliced unsalted butter over the steak bites. Allow it to melt into the sauce for a rich, buttery finish.
  8. Finish and Garnish: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the steak bites before serving for a fresh, vibrant touch.
  9. Serve: Serve the garlic butter steak bites hot over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice to soak up the delicious sauce.

Notes

  • Using chuck roast instead of sirloin is a budget-friendly option and results in tender meat with slow cooking.
  • Searing the steak cubes before slow cooking enhances flavor but can be skipped for convenience.
  • Adjust salt levels based on whether your Au Jus gravy mix is salty, to keep sodium balanced.
  • Serve over creamy mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles to complement the rich sauce.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for 3 days and reheat nicely on the stovetop or microwave.
