Ingredients

Units Scale

Fish and Seasonings

  • 4 mahi mahi fillets
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin

Peppers

  • 2 poblano peppers or jalapeños
  • Jalapeños (for topping, quantity to taste)

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Assembly

  • 4 tortillas (charred)
  • 1/3 cup fish slaw
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the Fish: Coat the mahi mahi fillets evenly on both sides with garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano, chili powder, and cumin. Press the seasonings into the fish to adhere well.
  2. Cook the Fish: Heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a large skillet or indoor grill over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned fish fillets and sear for 7 to 8 minutes until the bottom side is cooked and golden.
  3. Flip and Finish Cooking: Flip the fish fillets carefully and cook the other side for about 7 minutes until the mahi mahi is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Slice the Fish: Remove the cooked fillets onto a cutting board and slice into strips. Drizzle with lime juice and sprinkle with chopped cilantro for extra flavor.
  5. Prepare the Sauce: Combine sour cream, lime juice, cilantro, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and olive oil in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  6. Assemble the Tacos: Take each charred tortilla and layer with sliced mahi mahi, fish slaw, avocado slices, jalapeños, and a final drizzle of the cilantro lime sauce. Garnish with extra cilantro.
  7. Serve: Serve the tacos immediately while warm and enjoy the fresh, flavorful combination.

Notes

  • This recipe is quick, easy, and perfect for weeknight dinners.
  • Char your tortillas directly on a gas burner or skillet for that authentic smoky flavor.
  • You can substitute poblano peppers with jalapeños depending on your spice preference.
  • Add extra lime juice or hot sauce to the sauce for a tangier or spicier kick.
  • Use fresh cilantro for best flavor in the sauce and garnish.
