Description
Grilled Sausage With Peppers and Onions is a flavorful and easy-to-make dish featuring Italian sausages grilled to perfection alongside tender, charred bell peppers and sweet onions. This classic combination is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or casual entertaining and can be served with your favorite side dish or toasted rolls.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 6 mild or hot Italian sausages
Vegetables
- 2 green bell peppers
- 2 red bell peppers
- 2 Vidalia or yellow onions
Other
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Red pepper flakes, optional, 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Heat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place a grill pan on the grill and allow it to heat up fully, which should take about 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Vegetables: While the grill is heating, core and slice the red and green bell peppers into strips. Peel and slice the Vidalia or yellow onions. Combine the sliced peppers and onions in a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss to coat evenly.
- Cook the Sausages: Place the Italian sausages on the hot grill pan. Grill the sausages for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they are slightly charred and fully cooked through. Once done, remove the sausages from the grill pan and tent them with foil to keep warm.
- Grill the Vegetables: Add the prepared peppers and onions to the grill pan. Cook them for 5 to 7 minutes, tossing occasionally to ensure the edges become charred and the vegetables soften evenly. Once cooked, remove the vegetables from the grill pan.
- Serve: Arrange the grilled sausages with the peppers and onions alongside your favorite side dish or serve on toasted rolls for a delicious meal.
Notes
- Use mild or spicy Italian sausages according to your preference for heat.
- To keep sausages juicy, avoid puncturing them while grilling.
- For added flavor, sprinkle red pepper flakes over the peppers and onions if you like a little heat.
- This dish pairs well with toasted rolls for sandwiches or as a main course with salad or roasted potatoes.
- You can substitute the Vidalia onions with any sweet yellow onions if unavailable.
