Description

Deliciously crispy baked tofu coated in a flavorful peanut sauce, perfect for a quick and satisfying vegan main course. This recipe combines super firm tofu with a creamy peanut sauce made from common pantry ingredients, baked to golden perfection for a healthy and tasty meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu

  • 1 pound super firm tofu (dried and cubed)
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Peanut Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Hot water (as needed for sauce consistency)

Garnish

  • Green onion (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tofu: In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with oil until evenly coated. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu and mix gently until the tofu is coated evenly with the cornstarch. Rinse and dry the bowl to use later for tossing with sauce.
  2. Bake Tofu: Arrange the coated tofu cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through to ensure even crispiness and a golden color on all sides.
  3. Make Peanut Sauce: While the tofu bakes, combine the peanut butter, sesame oil (if using), low-sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice in a small bowl. Add a splash of hot water and stir vigorously until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add more hot water little by little until you achieve a pourable, creamy consistency.
  4. Toss with Sauce: Once the tofu is crispy and golden, transfer the tofu cubes to the reserved dry bowl. Pour the prepared peanut sauce over the tofu, and toss gently but thoroughly to coat each piece in the sauce.
  5. Serve: Garnish the crispy tofu with sliced green onions and serve immediately to enjoy the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • This recipe can be adapted to air frying or pan frying if preferred for different textures.
  • Use super firm tofu and press well to remove excess moisture before coating for extra crispiness.
  • Adjust the consistency of the peanut sauce with hot water to your liking for dipping or drizzling.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to keep sodium levels moderate.
  • For a spicier version, add chili flakes or sriracha to the peanut sauce.
